If a cow can get her calf up and going at birth, even in frigid temperatures, that calf will have an advantage throughout its life. If she is a good milker, her calf will weigh more at weaning. If she is a calm cow whose calf is also quiet, it will gain better throughout its life and be less apt to get sick.
