Douthit Herefords has over 80 years of progressive breeding backing the bulls and heifers offered for sale. We put extreme importance on functional cattle that can perform under different environment and management situations. We utilize private treaty sales so we can visit with our customers and hear what they need to move their program forward and help their bottom line. We can then guide them towards bulls best suited for their needs. We are very critical of our own herd in order to put the best seedstock on the market.
- Careful selection is made for all herd bulls utilized in the breeding program
- They come out of top/respectable programs and are typically sale topping bulls
- The cowherd is critically analyzed on an bi annual basis
- Udders are scored at calving…we have zero tolerance for a poor udder.
- At weaning time all calves are analyzed. If a cow’s calf doesn’t meet our expectations she is removed from the herd.
- Any BW over 100 lbs enters the steer pen
- We will steer 50% of the bull calves to ensure only the top end are sold for breeding purposes
- We gather data all year long to provide accurate EPD’s, ultrasound data and ratios to our customers, making us Gold TPR Breeders
- ZERO CREEP is fed…and once weaned all cattle are developed on a high roughage diet. We believe in longevity of both the bulls and females
- All cattle are developed and maintained on Vitaferm
- Dispositions are of utmost importance.
- All cattle are on a vet-recommended vaccination and deworming schedule
